Privacy Policy

Last updated July 2026

Bearings (“we”, “us”) helps you find job directions, judge whether a role is worth applying to, and prepare tailored résumés and cover letters. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and the choices you have. It reflects how the service actually works today.

1. Signing in with your Google account

GetBearings offers “Sign in with Google” as an optional way to log in. If you choose it, we request only the most basic information from Google — your name, email address, and profile picture — for one purpose only: to authenticate you and to create and securely store your account and job-search data. We never access your Gmail, contacts, Google Drive, or any other Google service, and we never use this data for advertising, nor sell or rent it. You can revoke this app’s access at any time in your Google Account settings.

2. Information we collect

Account: your email address (used to sign in via a one-time link — we do not use passwords).
Profile & résumé content: the background, experience, skills, credentials and preferences you enter or paste, plus any résumé text you provide.
Job activity: the searches you run, the roles shown to you, and the outcomes you mark (e.g. applied, interview).
Payment: when you buy credits, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive a confirmation and a record of the purchase; we never see or store your full card number.
Technical: the minimal data needed to run the service securely (such as your signed-in session). We do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

3. How we use your information

We use your information solely to provide the service: to find directions you could apply for, to score how well a role fits you, to generate tailored résumés and cover letters for your review, and to remember results between runs so you are not charged to re-score the same job.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

4. AI processing and service providers (sub-processors)

To score roles and tailor documents, the relevant content (your profile/résumé and the job posting) is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API for processing. Anthropic states that it does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.

We rely on a small set of service providers to operate:

Anthropic — AI processing (scoring and tailoring).
Supabase — database, file storage and sign-in. Your data is stored in Canada (ca-central-1 region).
Stripe — payment processing.
Railway — application hosting.
Resend — delivery of sign-in emails and weekly digest emails (USA). Your email address and digest content (job titles, companies, city) are transmitted to it for sending.

These providers process data only to perform services for us, under their own security and privacy commitments.

5. What we do not do

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We do not share it with anyone except the service providers above needed to run the service, or where required by law.
We do not use your data for advertising, or to train our own or anyone else’s AI models.
We never apply to jobs on your behalf — the final submission is always done by you.

6. Storage, security and retention

Your data is stored with Supabase in Canada and protected by access controls and encrypted connections. Sign-in uses a one-time link sent to your email; we do not store passwords.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete all of your data at any time (see “Your rights”).

7. Your rights

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email us at the address below and we will act on your request. In Canada, your information is handled in line with PIPEDA (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act).

8. Cookies and local storage

We use only what is essential: a secure session to keep you signed in, and a stored preference such as your chosen language. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

9. Children

Bearings is intended for adults seeking work and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and its “last updated” date. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
