Terms of Use

Bearings is a job-search assistant. It helps you discover directions you could apply for, judges how well a role fits you (“worth applying?”), and generates tailored résumé and cover-letter drafts for you to review. It is a preparation tool — not an application service and not an employment agency.

Bearings deliberately stops before submission. We prepare the materials; the decision to apply and the act of submitting an application are always yours. We do not send applications on your behalf.

Documents are generated by AI from the information you provide. We generate content only from the facts recorded in your profile, and we check claims against that profile line by line. Even so, AI can make mistakes. You are responsible for reviewing every document for accuracy and truthfulness before you use or submit it. Do not submit anything you have not verified.

We do not promise or guarantee any job-search outcome — including interviews, offers, or employment. The service provides assistance only.

You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your email secure, since sign-in uses a one-time link sent there. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

Signing up includes free credits — the amount granted is the one shown on the sign-up page (currently: 3 for the first 100 sign-ups, 1 thereafter). Generating a packet costs one credit, which you can buy in advance. Prices are shown before purchase and processed by Stripe. Credits are tied to your account and are not transferable or redeemable for cash.

If a packet fails to generate, you are not charged — the credit is returned to your account automatically. Because a generated packet is delivered digitally and immediately, credits already spent on successfully generated packets are generally non-refundable. If something goes wrong, contact us and we will make it right.

Subscription: the Job-Search Season plan is a monthly, auto-renewing subscription. Billing starts when you subscribe. At the start of each billing period we add that period’s packet allowance to your account. You can cancel at any time from “Manage subscription”; after cancelling you keep access until the end of the current billing period. Except where the law requires otherwise, a billing period already underway is not refunded pro rata. If prices change we will tell you in advance, and the change will not affect a period you have already paid for.

Use the service lawfully and for your own genuine job search. Do not upload other people’s personal information without the right to do so, attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service, or use it for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose.

You keep ownership of the information you provide and the documents we generate for you. You grant us a limited licence to process that content solely to provide the service to you (including sending it to the AI provider described in the Privacy Policy). The Bearings software, brand and design remain ours.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We work to improve it continuously, but to the extent permitted by law we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bearings will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost opportunities, arising from your use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim.

You may stop using the service and ask us to close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached, or to protect the service or other users.

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will update this page and its “last updated” date; continued use after changes means you accept them.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there.
